Do you have a picture? Hard to know what to advise without seeing the issue

I can’t see a picture but yesterday I had my oven cleaned by a company and I asked about my BBQ. It’s come up like brand new! I had dusted and surface washed it as much as I could but whatever they do has made it totally useable again.

If the inside is OK, you could probably scrub it down with wire wool, and give the outside a coat of heat résistant paint.

There are lots of videos on YouTube showing people removing rust from a BBQ, it might be helpful to watch a couple. Lots of elbow grease I imagine!
