Hi, I have a south-facing basement. It’s all below ground. The kitchen is down there.

it had a Victorian grille and opaque windows so it was absurdly dark.

we replaced the grille with walk-on glass and replaced the windows with modern windows. Now it’s just very dark….

i want to do something clever with mirrors, super-reflective paint, etc. I found one solution but it’s in Switzerland and probably absurdly expensive even if you can buy it here….

does anyone have any experience/knowledge?

thank you.

What do the windows look onto? Is there any outside space you can dig out further or slope away from the house? I used to live in a very dark basement but on one side at least, it had french windows onto a excavated terrace much lower than the garden level with steps leading up.

I live in lower ground floor flat, but it's south facing and the owners put cut floor to ceiling mirror down one side of the hallway. It works pretty well bouncing the light around

Digging isn’t an option but mirrors are….
