Hi there,

My wife, 3 year old, unborn baby, and myself are considering a move to Glasgow from Edinburgh because of changing jobs and long commutes.

We are wondering what areas might be suitable for a young multi-cultural family. We are doing our research etc but wanted to get some lived experience views too.

Our criteria are:
Price: up to 450,000
Location: Our new jobs are in the south of Glasgow and Lanarkshire. So, somewhere that is easy to commute from.
Property type: 3 bedroom flat or house.
Must haves: good local nursery/primary school, nearby parks, quick access to city centre.
Preferences: close to shops,& cafes.

Check out Clarkston/Newton Mearns. Only 15 mins from city

I'd recommend Battlefield too. Very easy to access the motorways.

Good suggestions so far. Also suggestions you try posting in Scotsnet for good advice.

I’d look at the southside- shawlands/battlefield/Mount Florida/pollokshields for flats.
Kings Park/Cathcart and some parts of Newlands you may be able to get a house on that budget.
Primary schools are all good and you’ve a while before you need to seriously consider high schools. I would look at Clarkston if you want somewhere for 10+ years and high schools are a deal breaker.
Again, reposting this in Scotsnet will get a wider opinion
