Would you buy a painted uPVC front door

Seen this door in the flesh and it has a painted finish, it looks like timber but it’s uPVC. Our house is 1970s and we were originally going to go for composite. It would seem crazy to put a timber door on a 70s house but this seems a good compromise. Would we regret the painted finish when presumably it will need repainting at some point? Does anyone else have a door from this range?
Crappy photo coz I just took it to remind myself, this is the link:

I like it (I like the stained glass) but the postbox and lock don't look right for me.

Does it come in other colours?

DaisyYellowGold · 25/04/2025 19:06

Yes, if you go for the painted finish you can choose any colour which also appeals to me because composite doors only come in a choice of about 6 colours and I’m picky!

I would prefer to my awful front door.

And I did have to paint that last year. (It need did it.) Which has vastly improved it.

Being able to pick a colour would be nice.

In this photo itt looks like a bog standard upvc plastic door to me if I'm honest Which would fit a 70s house. I'm not sure the victorian style stained glass looks right with it though.

Yes sorry my photo isn’t great but it’s painted a pale grey, if you zoom in on the glazing bars you might be able to tell. I would probably go for one of the other styles for our house tbh, I just liked the look of this one.

I recently had to deliver something to all the houses in the neighbourhood, and I was surprised at how tatty and faded many of the composite doors had become, so I can see the attraction of a painted one.

Can you get the same paint to repaint it?

I think some jazzy glass could look quite good on a 1970s house.

abracadabra1980 · 25/04/2025 20:53

Sorry I just think it looks like UPVC so I'm not a fan. The stained glass to me just looks wrong in anything other than period properties.

Ok so seems like most people aren’t fooled and it still looks like uPVC. I think it was the matt paint that fooled me but that’s also the thing that means it won’t be maintenance free.

This is actually the style that we might go for
