Cheap spruce up of a kitchen

just wanted some opinions; we have a very old and very small (I’d say 2 x 3 m) kitchen and we are going to do major renovations in about five years time which includes making it open plan with the dining room and replacing the whole lot.

However, the kitchen does look really quite miserable in the meantime and I wondered if anyone had any experience or thoughts on a cheap (less than £1000) spruce up. The cupboards aren’t too bad, it’s the tiles, worktop, floor.
do you think I could get some form of worktop cover, tiling replaced (the area of tiling is only about 1 m x 50 cm) and lino floor for this budget? We live in South London.

How handy are you? I'd be tempted to have a good YouTube binge and try the tiling myself, and wrap the counter in a vinyl of some sort
That should leave plenty to get your floor done.

You could also get vinyls that just stick over existing tiles, or paint them!

Not very handy at all! Good idea about the stick on tiles though - I can probably stretch to that!!! Thanks
