Hardwood flooring costs

Our living room is around 20m2 and carpeted but ideally id like to have hardwood put down. This is our forever home (planning to be here for at least the next 20yrs until kids are adults) and we’ve had bad experienced with laminate and LVF in the past so I’m only considering hardwood or carpet again.

Does anyone know rough prices for 2025 for materials and labour in the South East? Mid-range, not the fanciest!

Thanks :)

Go to B&Q / a flooring shop of your choice and choose what you want. Packs will be in approximately 1.88m squared bundles so if your room is 20m squared you will need 11 of these to give you the 10% waste required. When I did ours I paid about £70 a pack from memory and this was solid oak. You can go a lot cheaper. Fitting it all really is a piece of cake - just click it all together and you’ll need a circular saw ideally to make the cuts. Paying trade it’ll be a days job assuming little prep work - ripping a carpet out you can easily do yourselves and drive it to the tip. I did exactly that so no idea what someone would charge. Maybe £3-400 for a days labour?
