(photos) Panicking - worker here to install picture rail and not sure it's the right choice

I ordered picture rails and planned to have them installed today. Suddenly I am second guessing everything.

Should we go for it?

This is ground and first floor. The ugly clothes rail will obviously be removed from any final decoration scheme. We will be installing traditional Victorian tile flooring on the ground floor.

It looks nice here! What did you decide?

We will put it there (as pictured) on the first floor, but I am leaning towards not having one on ground floor.

No turning back now! Tbh I am happy with the results.

I think we will give it a miss on ground floor.

Thanks to everyone who weighed in! It has been super helpful to hear different perspectives.

Separately, I don't have great photos of the rest of our house to share, but maybe I will take some when it's tidy and there is good light ☺️

Not to derail the thread but can I ask what brand colour black paint you used for the stairs. They look terrific.

@AlwaysmoreIt may be F&B Railings, I have stairs painted with it and they look like that.

We used Little Greene throughout the house. If you get a consultation with them, you get a 15% discount (iirc) that lasts for a year. This colour is Lamp Black. It's similar to Railings, but (I think )a bit less blue. I preferred it for our colour scheme.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen dado and picture rails together 🤔 in which case I think it might be too much to have a picture rail here.

Agree, it’s one or the other.

Dado rail one thirds up or picture rail two thirds up.

you wouldn’t have both.

What are your thoughts on the photo I shared above if the space with both?

Photo looks fine. But certainly nothing revolutionary or ‘must have’.

the only reasons I would have both dado and picture rail in these circs would be if they were there already and you would shrug and think ‘Fair play, I’ll. work with them’ however I certainly wouldn’t pay money to have both.

CheckedChecker · 13/04/2025 22:15

@RitaAndFrank ok, so we have established it wasn't a totally stupid and wrong idea. Thanks.
