I've have a pistol-style Bosch IXO myself, and have used it quite a lot on occasions. It seems to work well for me.

Unfortunately, I've not tried a sonic-style screwdriver to compare them.

Having pondered it a little, I have a feeling that pistol-style might be slightly easier to use, as you don't need to tilt your wrist to hold it. And the button/trigger should wind up in a convenient position more often. But it might be quite a small difference, all in all.

As a tiebreaker, have you considered whether you liked pretending to be a cowboy or Doctor Who as a kid?

We have the Bosch one and it works really well and keeps a good charge.

I bought my own small one which turns from one to the other because I can never find stuff DH puts away and I'm busy doing lots of stuff selling a house. I prefer it when it's a gun. I feel like there's more precise control.

I also bought my own mouse sander because the household one is massive and most of the jobs I do are small.

What are you going to use it for? You might find that an impact driver is better. I have a Makita one and it's brilliant.
