Painting a pallet fence - has anyone done this before? - tips and advice please

I’m currently building a pallet fence at my allotment to secure it for my 17 month old son. I’m going to paint it when it’s done. Has anyone done this before? Does it need primer? What’s the best kind of paint? Am I also expected to paint the back on my neighbours side? Any tips and advice would be very welcome 🤗

Is your intention just to make it look nice? Have you thought of wood stain/preserver rather than paint.

Something like sodolin comes in loads of colours and very easy to use without much in the way of prep. Plus it has the added advantage that it will stop it from rotting.

Hi, yes I’d like to make it look nice. I’d like to do different colours on it too. Would I need a primer with that?

If you use something like Ronseal Garden Paint you don't need a primer. It comes in tester sizes too if you need a small amount for different colours. I find it lasts well.

Go for Zinnser All Coat - no need for primer - you can get it mixed to any colour you want - 15 year guarantee and water based! Lovely paint to work with. I did my fence last year with it - two coats and the job was done.

Not for wood stains or sadolin.

Can’t help with the practicality but question made me smile remembering Tom Sawyer getting everyone else to white wash the garden fence
