Kids paint all over sofa

DS (3) and DP were doing some painting this morning. I was upstairs with baby getting ready and getting him sorted. DP came up to shower and came back down to yellow paint all over our new sofa that we only got 2 months ago. It must of been on DS clothes and he’s gone jumping on the sofa. I’m so mad at DP for leaving him with paint on his clothes knowing how he jumps about the sofa (I’m forever telling him). We have tried a stain remover kit we got with the sofa, white vinegar, dr beckman and it’s still so noticeable. I could scream. I feel like everything we have just gets damaged and like money down the drain. It’s hard to pick up on camera as noticeable as it is in real life but here is an example, there’s at least 7 splats of it still. Any miracle solutions that will get rid of it?

Video on BBC website currently has guy from Sort Your Life Out using nail varnish remover, microfiber cloth and soft toothbrush to remove paint from sofa

Mumblechum0 · 23/03/2025 13:17

Agreed! It's not very noticeable at all.

Also worth remembering there's no point being annoyed at DH and DS for an accident, unless next time you make a simple mistake you're completely fine with him holding it over you and thinking you did it on purpose.

The photo is just one spot, there’s a good few more which aren’t picking up well on camera but definitely noticeable IRL.

1001 fabric / carpet cleaner

Honestly i suspect even in real life it's not as noticeable as you think it's just because you know it's there.

I would personally just cover it with a throw and accept this is unlikely to be the only time something happens to your sofa. You have two very young children this sort of stuff is unfortunately inevitable no matter how careful you try to be.

Try hand sanitiser with alcohol in it,I used it on a rug and the stain lifted(wasn't paint though)

CarrieOnComplaining · 23/03/2025 13:38

Your home contents insurance?

Are the covers removable? Have you put them in the wash, with a bit of Vanish rubbed on the spots?

I presume it is child friendly washable / water based paint?

Decisionsdecisions43 · 23/03/2025 13:43

Dr Beckmanns upholstery cleaner will sort it out

scandalito · 23/03/2025 14:56

Vanish carpet /
upholstery spray works really well on my neutral sofas

amiadoormat · 23/03/2025 15:53

Where is the sofa from? I get it OP…I have pre school age twins and it feels like anything new and nice gets ruined. My sofas are from DFS and I do put the covers through the washing machine on a hand wash setting then air dry
