Roller blind that is not full blackout - but not "sheer" either

...but something in between...

I am after a roller blind to fit behind shutters that will cut out a fair bit of light, but not ll of it - so when the shutters are open and the blind closed, there will be enough light on the room to see but I still won't be dazzled, till I'm ready for the day. The thickness of a fabric curtain I suppose.

Does "sheer" just mean "not blackout"? The pictures I have seen (Dunelm, Ikea etc) look like they are more like nets for modesty than for shading out light, and I don't think these would keep the room dark enough at night. But I assume the blackouts do as they say. Once upon a time roller blinds did neither of those jobs very well because they fell in the middle somewhere - and one of those is what I want, awkward bugger that I am!

If anyone has found this mythical beast, I'd be so grateful for a pointer 🙏

You want a "daylight" blind.

It baffles me that most water resistant blinds for bathrooms are also blackout.

Thanks @PickAChew ! I saw a couple that seemed rather pale and sheer so thought they were designed to maximise light - so I dismissed them, but now found some in darker colours seem to be about right, I feel more confident now.

(found some on John Lewis and they are nothing like as expensive as I'd feared!)
Thank you again!

very reasonable price

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 20/03/2025 22:25

Oh theres the photo 😀

SabreIsMyFave · 20/03/2025 22:27

The Range do some cracking ones! Good, reasonable prices too. Smile

Ikea SANDVEDEL is imo limites light better than nets but you should look at a darker colour to block more sunlight

when I was looking the Range had some plain mid weight fabric with good colour choices and B&Q some too which were not too pricey and if your windows are different they had a good range of W and L so easy to resize if needed

Bluevelvetsofa · 21/03/2025 17:34

Day and night blinds perhaps. Sometimes called zebra blinds.

Ooh thanks so much everyone. Lots of very helpful ideas and especial thanks to @RufustheFactuaIReindeer for your persistence in getting the info in here 😁. The Range looks like a good shout as I can actually go and look which I think im going to want to do. But I don't have a branch all that handy so I may just risk an online order...

Thanks again for all the help!

Thanks candy 😀

the online place we used was very good, ds1’s husband can’t sleep in a dark room 😳 so they just have that blind and we have curtains we can pull when we have guests
