To move or not to move..

We have been going round in circles for years. It's classic love it or list it. One of us wants to move and the other doesn't.
We don't have a big budget so that doesn't help as we don't earn a lot.

At the moment we have a house that's slightly too big but very affordable. We have done lots to it so it's structurally sound. It's tired inside.

Do we move and try find a house that's all done or get a loan and do our house up?
We can hear neighbour noise on both sides as we are a terrace house which is really annoying and they will hear us too.

We don't know what to do for the best so any opinions would be great please. All friends think we should move but family thinks stay

You don’t say how old you are but perhaps think about the future. I am assuming that you have children.

Do you have easy access to food shopping, doctors, hospital, any other stuff?
Parking. Can you park easily and can a carer park easily.
Do you have a bathroom on the ground floor? Is your bathroom suitable for grab bars and the like?
Do you have a room that can be turned into a bedroom on the ground floor? Or is your stair suitable for a stairlift?
Is your kitchen step free?
Are you expecting/hoping for family support, even if it is only social? Or have your children moved elsewhere with no intention of moving back because that’s where their work etc is? Read through these threads https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/elderly_parents. Will you be doing any of this to your children?

Is it time to have a clear look at your future and set yourself up for success? Do your children need to be part of the discussion?

Look to see what you can get for your house, where might be a good place to settle in the future and what is available there.

I think that only after all that can you make a proper decision.

I would stay put. £5k for stamp duty,
£5k estate agents could be spent wisely on the house decor.

Pros and cons list is always helpful. List out any reasons for staying or going, then you can assess. Take a look at what you could afford in the areas you'd like to live.

Thanks for the replies. To answer some questions, no children at home now. No room for a toilet downstairs as it's just a room and a small kitchen.
We have had it valued but where we live housing stock that we can afford goes very quickly. All in to sell, including stamp duty would be about £6k which I do think we could do a lot with in our house.
I have done the pros and cons list too and it's about 50/50 so that didn't help 😂
