Remortgaging for extension and off sick

Don’t really know where to ask this, but can’t ask my bank!

We've got planning permission granted for an extension and were going to take out an extra mortgage from our lender (£100k).
This was in principle agreed but not applied for.

My husband has been off sick for the last 6weeks with a leg injury, and will probably be off for another month at least.
He’s getting limited company sick pay/SSP, but does have income protection paying out -phew! He’s the main earner - 3x my salary.

Can we still apply, or is it better to wait 3 months or so after he’s back to work so we have our normal income?

I'd wait personally.

How long is the mortgage in principle valid for?

napody · 19/03/2025 14:03

They'll want 3/6 months payslips, won't they? So I'd have thought you'll need to wait.

I'd just wait.

Wait for your income to go back up again. We’ve just sorted our mortgage and had to provide our most recent payslips.

i expect the mortgage company would be concerned the sickness (and therefore reduced pay) might continue.

Thanks, that’s what I thought, but didn’t want to hear!
it’s not a mortgage in principle, it was a chat about what we could borrow, at what additional rate, to our current fixed mortgage. The next step was an official application.
will give it a few months once he’s back and go for it, frustrating for the delay, but not the end of the world.
