Poppleton Leeds Commute

My fiancé and I are looking to buy a house in/around York/West of York. We’re from York and have recently lived in Garforth and South Bank so know areas fairly well. We’re thinking Poppleton given there’s a train station and amenities, plus you’re still close to York centre. We both need to commute to Leeds 3 times a week though - how reliable is the Poppleton to Leeds (via York) train? For those who do it, how long does it take in reality and would you recommend it? Or are we missing out on other suitable areas? We could drive to a train station but wouldn’t want to drive into Leeds centre itself.

I don't do the route myself, however... Are you planning to take the train from Poppleton to York and then back out? That could be quite restrictive as I don't think the trains to and from Harrogate are that frequent?

We live on the east side of York And my dh has given up on the train altogether. He drives to the Park and Ride just outside Leeds at Stourton and then takes the bus in. He thinks it's more reliable, more convenient and cheaper. (I can't comment - my commute is 12 mins on my bike!)

Edited to say: not Stourton p&R, but Temple Green.

The Leeds to Poppleton train runs fairly regularly (twice and hour at best) but the direct one takes about an hour. The normal Leeds to York train takes 20 mins and is regular and reliable. It just depends on how much of a faff it is to get from Poppleton to York.
Driving into Leeds can take best park of an hour so even the slower, direct train is better than that!
