Soundproofing

Hi,

Has anyone had any soundproofing done that could advise me on where to start?

I live in a semi and am sick of hearing next door. They are noisy, have annoying barking dogs and walk like mini elephants.

Do things like fitted wardrobes actually help or is professional soundproofing the only way? Any idea of costs?

Thankyou!

Done professionally and high spec insulation it can cost several thousand pounds per wall - depending on room size and wall height.

Wardrobes filled with clothes and book shelves help as well as curtains (if you have blinds) and rugs or carpets ( if you have hard floors) and cushions etc.

A cheaper option is to try headphones!

I would get several quotes from reputable companies and factor in the cost of redecoration but be aware that it may not completely cut out the sound.

My neighbours never spoke to one another if they were in the same room - bawled at one another and their dogs from the opposite ends of the house. I felt as if I was the third person in their relationship as I knew more about them than their parents - I could recite their arguments line by line....

In the end, I worked out that the cost of moving house was the same as the cost of soundproofing two or three key rooms so I downsized to a detached - it is half the size of my old noisy house but it is blissful as I don't hear neighbour noise and I don't worry about being antisocial if I have the TV on loud.

The lesson I took from my experience is that size isn't everything ...

Thankyou @Reginald123

Yours sound like mine! Between the stomping and the dog it’s got me on edge.

I can’t afford to move sadly, I’ve put so much money into this house and won’t make it back so I’m stuck 🙁

I could do wardrobes though! Maybe with panels behind or something like that.
