Taken off the market before I could view

Was due to view a house tomorrow. It's been on since July last year and is currently a student rental. It's on a road we love and has brilliant views which is my big thing.

I just wanted to see if with a view to making a good offer - it's at a price we can easily afford as it would be a downsize for us and we'd have money to do it up to be our forever home.

I'm frustrated they've decided to take it off just when I'd found it! Is it worth going back to the estate agent and trying to persuade them to let me have a gander ? There's a strong chance we'd make an offer and we're in no hurry to complete before the students' leases are up in August.

Of course it’s worth a try

We had our eye on 2 houses that went off the market, before we were in a position to make an offer. We kept in touch with both estate agents, and once we had accepted an offer on our house, tried to offer on them. The first one were not really interested, they've not sold but weren't being flexible with price at all. So then we offered on the 2nd one and managed to negotiate a price we are both happy with. So give it a try you never know. Good luck.

Thank you. Yes I will then!

How have you only just seen it if it has been on since July - wasn't it on Rightmove?

BobLobla · 11/03/2025 22:21

I just hadn’t clocked it and we weren’t looking to move just yet so I don't religiously check Rightmove. The houses on that road are usually a lot more pricey so it was a real surprise to find it. It doesn’t have a board outside either.
Anyway I called the estate agent again today and asked for a viewing on the basis that the seller has nothing to lose. They’re hopefully ringing me back tomorrow…

If it's a student house and they've taken it off the market with a view to hanging on to it and renting it out into next year, they will very likely already have signed a contract with new tenants for 2025/26

I dont get this bit. Youre not on rightmove daily? How di you nosy at people’s houses then?

Definitely worth a try. Our house had been off the market for three months when the agent got back in touch to say that they had a potential buyer. We were very happy to accept their offer and the sale went through smoothly.

Incomprehensible 😂

I go from actively looking to deciding to stay put and trying to focus on staying here so I veer from 100% to zero as far as my Rightmove addiction goes. 😂

but I need to start another thread now as I went to view it yesterday and am now in a quandary…. 🙄
