Fitted wardrobes or not for teenager's small bedroom?

Hi my 12 year old son's bedroom is 12 ft x 9 ft. has an annoying semi alcove. He has the tiniest desk from ebay, overflowing bookcase and his old Mothercare wardrobe and I want to fit in a decent size desk for him. I think shelving for his books and bits would help. I don't know if fitted wardrobes would help or if it would make the room feel smaller as they go up to the ceiling. better for storage I think ... Any advice welcome!

We had a desk, wardrobe and shelving fitted in a similar sized bedroom and are really pleased with it. It's much easier for DD to keep tidy as everything has a place. The proper desk is great as beforehand I was worried about back issues from sitting in/on the bed to do homework!

I imagined a box room, his is pretty big one!

I find one of key things is to put the bed along one of the shorter walls, that way you are making the floor more square rather than long and narrow IYSWIM, so the room looks bigger.

Thank you! That's really helpful! I wish I was one of those people who could visualise rooms better!

Thanks yes you're right it's not a box room at all. I think it's the funny alcove thing that just makes it awkward and that's on a short wall and the door is on the other
