Washer dryer woes

Feeling a bit stupid and in need of advice please. Had an ancient washer dryer (inherited when we moved into the house 4 years ago, it wasn’t new then and they were no longer making it at that point). It recently stopped draining properly (clothes were more wet than usual and the machine would struggle on the spin cycle). We did the basic checks to make sure the drainage hose wasn’t blocked, filter not clogged etc and couldn’t find the cause so decided to replace it rather than risk getting someone to try to fix it since it was old anyway. New machine arrived yesterday (Indesit washer dryer, similar to the old one but more modern) and initially seemed great then quickly discovered that on the drying cycle it makes a horrid clunky noise and there seems to be water left in the machine so ?also not draining properly. Really stumped, presumably it was never the old machine in the first place (kicking myself obviously!) but a plumbing issue external to it. Anyone have any ideas on where we start with finding the cause please? In case it’s not obvious me and OH are both completely useless with all things DIY so need all the guidance we can get

Oh no, so annoying. Clunking, though, sounds worrying and more mechanical?
