Replacing garage door with patio doors

Has anyone replaced there garage door with UPVC patio doors to make it abit more weather proof and so can be used more?
We have an integrated garage which is also the utility space so I am thinking replacing the doors would make it warmer.
It's mostly for storage and laundry but if it was better maybe could be used for the dogs etc as well it's south facing so would warm up nicely and I would have film so can't be seen from outside

Likely issues you will face, there is no planning needed per se as you are not altering the structural opening but you are changing the use from a garage to a habitable room. That change of use requires planning permission. There will always be someone who reports you for it if you don't request it.

Has anyone on your street or surrounding streets with the same style house had a garage conversion? If yes then you are likely to be granted permission too but parking does come into it even though you probably do not use your garage for parking now. It is a consideration by the planning people. We did a full garage conversion and chatted to the planning chap and the building regs chap but we did a window to match the existing house ones and bricked up the opening.

I think local planning people let you pay a small fee to book an appointment to chat to them about your potential plans, it would be worth it.

We have a big driveway so that's not an issue ref parking we can fit 3/4 cars without the garage
I will consider planning at my past house we did the garage with permitted development
We won't be doing any internal changes so would still be storage

My only concern with patio doors would be that everything is 'on display' and could look untidy. (Our garage is used for storage and looks a right mess!)
