How to find out what area is like

Currently viewing properties in a new area. We don't live far away at the moment so we're very familiar with the town itself and happy to live there. We've viewed a few houses on the same large newish estate (approx 10 years old) and we want some honest opinions on what it's like living there, are there any common issues with the houses etc. The estate has a residents Facebook group which I have been rejected from because I admitted I don't actually live there (rookie error I know). Crime stats are low based on the police map but I want more info than that. Short of knocking on peoples doors which is a bit weird, what's the best way to find out some real info on what it's like to live there?

I’m not sure what else you want to know tbh. You could have a look for a local newsletter or which groups are running etc to get a feel. If it’s just the house stuff you could look up reviews for the builders, but even then you won’t get a true picture (eg Bovis have 2 stars on Trust Pilot but I had a brilliant experience with them).

You get any key information you need to know during the buying process (assuming the seller is truthful on their forms).

Is this just cold feet about buying? Is it your first house purchase?

Could you get your partner or a friend to join the Facebook group for you - without the rookie mistake?!

I think walk by a primary school at pick up time, I think you can gauge a lot about the kind of people who live there based on that. Also walk the streets at different times of day, visit local shops, see if people make small talk or mind their own business etc etc.
