Please help me find an impossible piece of furniture!

I want a massive storge trunk (think ottoman/blanket box but twice the height). It needs to contain a superking mattress topper and a few spare duvets and pillows. Does it exist??

Underbed storage is not possible, cupboards wont be deep enough I don't think and I feel like the bedding will fall out of it.

Any other solutions welcome, storage is a real issue in the house we've just moved into so no spare cupboards or anything.

Do you really need a spare? If you can't get rid then there's a couple of options, a kids wardrobe, vacuum pack the bulky stuff or even use two wooden ottomans on top of each other and DIY it so you remove the top and bottom of the pieces that meet in the middle?

We've just put our winter duvets in a vacuum bag and in our ottoman bed. It's amazing how squished you can get bulky items with vacuum bags.

You could search for a coffer, I expect the second hand market has some.

Yes essentially I need this but in a nice oak lol!

I did think about fashioning something from 2 ottomans.

Also didn't realise how big the vacuum bags go, I thought I had the max size and the topper didn't quite fit in it - but you can get huge ones that you can then roll up so this might be a goer for a regular ottomam

Look on antique auction websites. Possibly a travel chest or similar.

Rellotello · 07/03/2025 18:41

Search for blanket box, ottoman, storage chest etc on fb marketplace. You’ll get something much nicer and better made

You can get large wooden garden storage boxes, stain them in an oak, finish or paint.

Good quality vacuum bags will do the trick nicely. We just packed up multiple duvets, pillows and mattress toppers for long term storage and they take up very little room.

Big bags that you can suck the air out off are great for bedding. You then need less space to store things in.

We had a lovely bespoke wooden chest made by a local carpenter and when you see how much an off the shelf box would cost, the additional cost for one made to our exact sizes & specifications was not much more.

You could find a carpenter and get something made?

Thanks all! Think we are going to give the vacuum bags a go and see if they'll fit in a regular set of drawers.
