Moving to Manchester / Peak district countryside?

Currently in central Manchester and looking for more green space. I would love some suggestions on where to look.

We'd love to move towards the countryside, nice walks, cycling and community. Love markets and ideally a village with usual amenities (pub, shop, park, etc).

We have two pre-school aged children so ideally somewhere family friendly with good schools.

We're looking around rural south Manchester & peaks area. We'd like a reasonable commute into Manchester but also we have family in Sheffield so looking around peaks / west Yorkshire way.

Budget would be up to £800K for a 4 bed.

Any ideas would be welcome.

I grew up in Macclesfield and it's a great town with all that you require, plus good train access to Manchester and London (and probably Sheffield). The surrounding villages and towns are also lovely. We lived in Bollington for a time.

I can't comment on schools, but we live just in Derbyshire near New Mills. With your budget you should be able to get a lovely house. We're equidistant from Manchester and Sheffield. I regularly use the train to travel to Manchester. I can literally cross the road and be in the countryside. Beautiful views and good community feel.

Glossop is an option if you don't want to be too far from Manchester, but want easy access to Sheffield.

Thanks all for the suggestions, I'm taking notes.

@thebrowncurlycrown I would look at Marple/Marple Bridge/ Romiley. All would provide what you are looking for and more plus are also on the Manchester to Sheffield train line. Your budget would also get you a 4 bedroom.
