House move pending - wanna hang out and moan about the absolute nightmare of moving in uk

Hey all - thought here would be a good place to vent about this awful moving process that is the uk. I th

We are in process of moving process, 3 promised exchange dates have come and gone. Chain of 5 has collapsed twice.

Supposed to exchange today (as have been chased relentlessly saying everyone in the chain was ready) and now bottom of chain has found some enquiries that have been missed and now need to be sorted.

All before the 31st march.

I'm not sleeping, eating and I swear to god I have a stomach ulcer as it seems all my stress is displaying itself in a bodily form. Anyone else ? Tips for survival? Just wanna come along and moan.

All welcome

We moved on December 11th and I’ve since been signed off sick, not allowed to drive and they are saying they think it’s all due to stress. I feel like it’s going to take me ages to get over it.Is there anything you can do to help answer enquiries. I’m a solicitor and I ended up answering enquiries for all three parties in the end just to push it through. I hope it works out for you.

It is an absolute awful process. We are desperate to exchange and complete before 31.03 too🙏🏻 I am trying not to think about it. I couldnt bare it if our chain collapses 😭

Ahhh I'm so sorry how did the stress play out for you health wise if you don't mind me asking ? my stress is very much internal but my doctor said my various bouts of tummy issues, migraines etc is down to stress. Which wasn't very helpful !!

I am glad your signed off seems like the conveying world has gone a bit nuts

Where are you at in the process ? How longs your chain ? Any sticking points ?

I'm 100% with you, I was fairly chilled before about it all but my god my brain is just dying !

Following 🥲 I accepted an offer on my place last week, and I'm viewing somewhere this week which I hope to offer on.

It will be a chain of atleast 4 I believe. Can't wait for all this fun (joking)

lifeistrick · 03/03/2025 20:22

Also hope your sales progress smoothly from now on!!

Well all is not lost you maybe one of the lucky ones my sister in law sold her house in 6 weeks all straightforward no drama. Unfortunately there's elements that you cant control aka other people doing their jobs

True, my last sale took almost a full 12 months. So pretty sure I will be in your band camp again haha

BunnyWilliams · 03/03/2025 20:50

You have my sympathy! It's a horrendous process. I was so insanely stressed last time, I made myself really ill. I was about 7 months pregnant at the time (with two other young children) and it was all far too much. I swore we'd never do it again!

Low and behold, here we are. Our chain has just collapsed last week after our buyers pulled out. We're trying to hold everything together to hopefully still get our onward purchase. I'm trying to remind myself that there are many, many worse situations to be in and it's just a transactional purchase. It helps sometimes and other times it doesn't help at all!

Fingers crossed for you to exchange imminently!

It's like childbirth you think god that was hairy won't do this again and a few years later !!

I'm so sorry your buyer pulled out - have you got more viewings booked in ? Anyone in the wings etc ! We had this and our buyers found a new buyer within a week so it can be done !

(She says in property move purgatory)

Haha, yes it's exactly that!

No buyers waiting in the wings, unfortunately. We had only had 4 viewings over 3 months when we accepted an offer. Hoping the spring and relisting with a new agent might bring some joy. Vendors are hanging on for now but don't know how long their patience will last!

iamnotalemon · 03/03/2025 22:53

I do not know why the process in England is so bloody awful. It's so stressful. I'm not looking forward to having to do it again.

We are chain of 4 and we are 3rd in that line. Bottom 2 are all done and ready to go, we are just waiting for last few enquiries to come back from vendor. We can msg vendor directly and she has done her bit and helped as much as she can and shes ready to go but solicitors are being slow to send and review things! Every week Im praying this will be the week 🤣

bouncingaround · 04/03/2025 08:03

01.03.24 was the day we listed our property so it has been 12 months for us since deciding to move. 6 months since sale agreed 🥴

warningairbag · 04/03/2025 09:34

You're obviously in England OP. It's not the same all over the UK.

Sorry I’ve just seen this. I couldn’t hold my head up and was having neck pain and bouts of dizziness. It’s still not great but I’m back in work. The consultant thinks it’s all muscular due to stress. I had just started a new job and gone full time as well and was finishing late and trying to answer all the enquiries for 3 parties until about 9 or 10 every night.

hotandpermi · 06/03/2025 16:34

@BunnyWilliams it's not a hot market so I imagine your vendors may hang on in there ! How's this week been for viewings.

@iamnotalemon isn't it. It seems like such a racket for people to lose money over a situation they have no control over !

@bouncingaround how you progressing ? Any est on exchange ? I'm glad it's not just me who's had a fairly long process getting this sorted. My pal kept asking me what was going wrong with mine but she sold and completed in 8 weeks. Nearly died from envy.

@warningairbag and you would be correct. I'm super glad it's not like this everywhere, thank you for this comment super helpful.

@Lovemybunnies sounds like a similar situation that I'm having. I feel like it's got to get better right.

So update we were due to exchange tomorrow attempt number 4 ? But it turns out the ftb solicitors way down the chain hasn't confirmed they have actually sent their contract but has confirmed they have raised another few enquiries which take the total new ones enquiries up to 3 (raised the day when we said hey we are supposed to be exchanging) that said they are still saying on yes we will make the 31st of march deadline. I'm not sure if they are just making shit up at this point. So no exchange tomorrow and no news on when.

I cannot believe the chain may break or we all have to pay more stamp duty because some solicitor at the start of the chain hasn't done their job correctly (when they said yup this client is ready to go for the last few months previously)

I always took comments of first time buyers being useless causing issues in chains due to their own ineptitude with a pinch of salt. But now I get it honestly.

We are completely trapped and our EA has made this 100% worse !

Hopefully everyone's having more luck than we are.

We are no further along and bottom of chain have said they wont be able to continue with purchase after stamp duty goes up. So scared whole chain will collapse 😭
solicitors are just working so slowly.
This is starting to affect my mental health now.

I hope you are ok @hotandpermi

Keep the faith and if it helps at our current trajectory - we will complete about 2 days before 31st march. That's if the Ftb don't collapse the chain completely- I'm so with you but just keep chasing
