Elderly couple next door, all the time in the world for chat, and it seems an inability to understand not everyone has that luxury.
We're both 35 with 2 young kids. The neighbours been well, but appearing every time we set foot out the front door is too much. They put their arms on the short fence at the front hoping for a long interaction, and look miffed when we start herding the kids into the car.

AWBU to try and get the message across or is it mean? They're not lonely and have lots of family/friends if you were wondering..

YANBU this would drive me mad.
I had young chatty neighbours one time and if they were out mowing or anything I’d wait until his back was turned, or he’d popped to unplug it, before dashing quickly to the car. It’s so intrusive! I’m all for saying ‘hello, lovely day’ or whatever when I’m heading out, but I don’t want to spend my time with them just be they live next door.
Carry on op, maybe they’ll get the message.

Thanks
@SackChute I hope they get the message but at the same time I know even if they do. They will always annoy me because I know they want to be on us all the time, so it's like their presence irritates me even if they make an effort not to jump on us.
Hey ho, I guess I can't change their personalities but I'd like to think when I'm older, I won't jump on people just incase they might not like it 😳
