Rough price for door replacement

Boshlily · 27/02/2025 12:48

We've recently had carpets fitted and the fitters have damaged 4 of our doors. The company are offering compensation but are asking me to decide quickly, so I don't have time to get in someone to quote. Does anyone know a rough price for replacing quite bog standard internal doors. Including fitting them!

£150-200 per door (including hinges door handles etc) and then £300 for a carpenter for a day. Might need 2 days?
So between £900 and £1400.

More if you are in the se or london

How on earth did they manage that?! They should be sorting it all.

They shouldn't be forcing you to decide quickly on a price! How did they damage them?

The norm would be to wait till you can get 2/3 quotes! Are any of them fire doors? They cost alot more. Also note that there are multiple different height and widths of doors- they aren't all a standard size. Also, what you can buy them for from say B&Q doesn't include the cost of varnish/painting or fitting. Don't forget the cost of handles and hinges.

I start getting some quotes to include ALL the above. There are far too many variables to even give a rough idea I'm afraid.

I got fire doors from B&Q lat year after a similar situation with builders. £120 each, plus painting cost, incl cost of paint and labour, then one doorway was not a standard size so the frame had to be rebuilt to allow the door to hang (apparently it was easier than cutting the door to fit, for Reasons!) Plus delivery cost. You are looking at at least £150 per door (more if expensive paint like Farrow and Ball) plus labour costs for painting and hanging them.

The cost for a door replacement can vary depending on the material (uPVC, composite, timber) and whether it’s a standard or custom size. On average, you might expect:

  • Basic uPVC door: £500–£900
  • Composite door: £900–£1,800
  • Timber door: £1,000–£2,500+
Labour typically adds £200–£400, depending on adjustments needed.

That’s external doors. The OP is asking about internal doors. internal doors cost nowhere near the prices you have copied and pasted.

I am interested in this as several internal doors in the house need replacing. I did get a joiner in to quote and he just sent me a web page. Didn’t seem very interested. How do I go about finding replacements? Apparently they aren’t a standard size and I have no idea where to start.

I used savoytimber.co.uk. They make internal doors to non standard measurements. Just tell them the measurements you need and they will make it.

Oak internal fire door just under £200 plus hinges and handles, another £40-50, plus fitting.
