Hi
so I’m currently Band C and have been for a year and a half in the last month I have started ranking in at position 6-10 but have never been offered anything. This week I bid on 2 flats same building and ranking 6-10 on both does anybody actually getting offered anything with this rank? I get so close to 1-5 and in the last couple hours I drop to 6-10

It essentially means that there are that many people ahead of you for that house. Usually once 1-5 you will be shortlisted & invited to view.

I know where we are though if Band C the average time to get a 3 bed is 7 years, 2 beds 5 years and a one bed is around 4 years.

I’m not sure what the average waiting time is for fenland council. I did phone up and ask exactly what position I’m in with those 2 flats and was told I’m position 6. I just feel like I’m never going to get 1-5, I was 1-5 up until the last few hours and then dropped to 6-10.

Unfortunately it is a lottery and especially when you are in Band C there are 2 whole bands of people above you in priority, and there could potentially even be people in bands below you who would get priority over you if they have been waiting longer

Thanks I know there’s people in bigger need than me I wish I joined the list sooner than I did I just feel stuck. When I phoned and they told me my position was 6 they hold me 4 group b and 1 group C are in front of me. Although I have just logged into my account and my ranking on one flat has now changed to 1-5. So I guess someone pulled out although still not holding out much hope and there’s still 4 people ahead of me.

My best friend was band c and number 10 for her flat. She bid in the January, heard nothing so assumed she hadn't got it then got a random phone call in the April offering her the property. It can happen op

Well that’s reassuring to hear, this is the first time I’ve ever been ranked 1-5 so hopefully even if I don’t get anywhere this time if I can continue to rank 1-5 going forward maybe my time will come. Last year I was ranking over 20 and 11-20 it’s only been from January I have ranked 6-10 so my ranking is going down thankfully because I don’t think I can go another year living like this so I have my fingers crossed.

It's good you are going down in numbers op. Your time will definitely come. Hopefully sooner then you think. If you imagine there are say 4 available properties suitable for you, then the same people are probably bidding for the same properties so actually 4 of you will be successful so your position could then be number 2. It just takes the one other to decline and one of them could be yours

I've twice been offered HA properties when I was number 6 on the list. People ranked above you can be eliminated for many reasons, eg they don't have a good enough reference, they don't pass the affordability checks, they need support that doesn't come with the letting or they change their own mind after viewing the property. So at number 6 you can be optimistic. Good luck!
