Seller pulled out of house sale

The seller of the house we wanted to buy just pulled out 7 weeks into the process. They said there wasn’t many properties to choose from in the area they wanted to buy so decided to stay.

The house was on the market for 6 months before we made an offer at full asking. Surly 6 months is enough time to know that minimal properties come up in your desired area (I’ve checked myself) why waste someone else’s time and money?! Thousands down the drain for nothing. They said they listed their house for sale a couple of years ago but the buyer pulled out, so they decided to stay but now I’m thinking it was probably them.

Feeling deflated and disappointed. We’re first time buyers and wish someone would have warned me that buying a property isn’t fun. Don’t even want to look at other properties as worried it will happen again.

It's horrible when a seller or a buyer pulls out and the innocent party loses so much money. I'd start looking again though as interest rates have just dropped and in a few months they might go up again.

I really feel for you; it’s such a frustrating situation and heartbreaking losing out on something you’ve set your sights on and spent money on. Unfortunately it happens regularly. Start your search again when you’re ready and you’ll be much wiser second time around with this experience under your belt. Good luck!

It also definitely sounds like they’re the ones who pulled the previous sale too.

This happened to us 10 years ago. We were also selling a property and lost our buyers too because of it 😡
Luckily we found another house and new buyers and are really happy here. But it was sooo frustrating at the time plus the loss of money!

The people ended up extending the house, it's on my route to work and I noticed it's recently up for sale again. I wonder if they'll actually decide to sell this time!!

It is horrible but you can get insurance for this, do that next time you find a property you want to buy so you at least can get your money back if they pull out.

Sorry this happened. Next time, limit your spending at least until the chain is complete, although still no guarantee.

I’m sorry OP, there is something about buying and selling houses that really brings out the worst behaviour in people.

My seller pulled out 7 months into the process, it was one of the most frustrating and expensive experiences I’ve ever gone through.

Next time I didn’t believe it or get excited until the day of exchange. I was fully expecting it to go wrong again.
