Pimlico plumbers - massive rip off?

We got them to replace our boiler recently. It was expensive but we got a couple of quotes elsewhere and all were around the same amount. They were efficient and tidy.
I always find picking tradespeople super stressful because there are so many dodgy scammers out there. So when we needed some more stuff done for our drains and pipes I thought it made sense to get them back. Only the quote was literally 3 times what I was expecting.
Going to get a couple more quotes now obviously but just wondering if others have found them insanely expensive or am I out of touch with prices these days?

Depends if what you were expecting was reasonable. But generally yeah things are crazy expensive now

ComtesseDeSpair · 17/02/2025 08:55

They’re expensive, yes. But they market themselves as a premium service, appointments at your convenience, hassle-free appointment system, plumbers to the wealthy and the stars etc rather than competitive pricing and affordability as their profile. I’d look for a well-reviewed local outfit.

Ha! Plumbers to the stars! That explains it then 😁

I have found them to be dishonest and to do things like suddenly finding they need a part at the end of the first hour, then going off to source it (another hour), then coming back to fit it (charging another hour). We don't use them now, we use a local company with good reviews.

RobinEllacotStrike · 17/02/2025 09:49

That "Pimlico" in their name does much heavy lifting & increases their hourly rates.

Aintnobodygottime · 17/02/2025 17:54

Infamously expensive and the owner is awful. Avoid and go to a smaller company.

Hi,
I'm a reporter on The I Paper and I'm looking for people to share their experiences after hiring Pimlico Plumbers.
It'd be great if some of you would like to share them.
Best wishes,
dp

Pimlico's plays tactics of intent to deceive, does zero technical work, yet charges for bullshit advice
Pimlico sent a plumber to my place who did zero technical work but instead advised “Found booster pump burned out…… install new at cost of £589 + £125 labour” – but that was a blatant lie, we sent a copy of time stamped video showing that the pump worked perfectly fine. Figured out in fact there was just a simple airlock, which was solved with mere tap opening and vacuum easing off after open/close/re-open. Furious to see tactics of their intent to deceive, they saw the opportunity to exploit a vulnerable family with a little baby – and then sent me invoice of £150 for this deception. There was no technical service conducted by their plumber, and their website said no callout charges – but that was seemed like a gross misrepresentation.

I will be happy to share our experience. Very bad experience. They should find leak under the floor. Investigation through 3 visits leak is not in a place that they told us. So we are in the same place as we started we still dont know where the leak is and spend already 4.5k

Lamplight101 · 10/10/2025 20:06

We used their electrician service a while ago. They were terrible and we had to hire a local guy to correct what they had done. I would certainly never use them again, they are trading off past glory.

rpm4 · 10/10/2025 22:24

Yep your experience reminds me of the deception that i faced as well. Theme repeating.

I have terrible old plumbing in my flat, but year’s ago I got them out to replace my ancient bath taps with a shower mixer. They were there for eight hours, charged me £750 and left me with mismatched traps like I’m either mad or “artistic”
