How to find houseshare in London

DS has a job lined up in London starting in August will need to find a room in a house share.

When i was in the same position 30+ years ago, the way to do this was to buy Loot when it came out in the morning, look at adverts, make phone calls and be told to either come and visit that night (along with 5000 other people lol) or be told it was gone already.

Appreciate he doesn't need to start looking yet, but curious as to how people find house shares today. Am aware of SpareRoom app, but are there other methods too ?

And is it still as tough as ever to find a room ?

Spareroom is the obvious one but he should also just post on his own social media that he’s look, my friends and friends of friends constantly had rooms changing hands in our 20s
