Should I change my address?

After 20 years in the same house we are downsizing and have bought our next home. It needs building work done so we are moving to a rented house for up to a year.

I've set up a post redirection from old address to our rented home but which address should I tell banks etc to write to, new house or rented house? Does it matter? Will my decision affect my credit score?

How often will you be calling round to the new property while it’s been renovated?

You’ll be paying council tax for the year on your rental, so it probably makes sense to have your bank/driving licence registered to the rental property.

Not sure if you are a driver or not, so this may not be relevant, but if you are don’t forget to update your address details for both your driving licence and your V5 log books for any vehicles you use. Lots of people forget to update the V5 log book and get a nasty surprise when you may have a speeding ticket etc.

It’s actually an offence with a £1,000 fine not to inform the dvla of your current address.
