Magnet or Howdens kitchen

Does anyone have any thoughts on quality or how they compare for prices (and if you've had a Howdens kitchen how much it cost, how many units, whether low, mid or high range).

If we go Magnet, we'll probably use a fitter who they have on their list and they've confirmed roughly what it'll cost from the styles of kitchens/worktops etc we've looked at and comments made.

We have a couple of names for chaps who install Howdens, but obviously can't get a price for fittings as they supply trade, but know they come recommended.

In both cases we'll be looking at similar units, Magnets are in the low-mid price range and there are a couple of options online for Howdens low and mid price range.

They don’t design though. How do you know what to choose and get the measurements right?

Get Magnet or Howdens to measure and design, and then copy the list of units you need and order from DIY instead.

DIY also have a planner of their webite where you can design yourself. When you place the order they check against your design for you, and let you know if you have forgotten anything.

I also actually found the designs I got from Howdens and Magnet pretty rubbish. I was much happier with the one I designed myself on DIY website.

I bought symphony through my local builders merchants. Top range this time because I wanted a certain door colour and finish. Last house I had mid range symphony. Really good quality units and a very good finish on the doors, my kitchen is a farm house kitchen in the true sense so it gets a lot of heavy use.

Ours is from Magnet (our builder got us a trade discount). It’s two years old so far and we’re still very happy with it (Ambleside range)

My builder had trade accounts with both and recommended Magnet over Howdens (we did end up not going with either though so can’t personally vouch)

From knowing people in the kitchen industry ands having recently done our own, your best bet is actually DIY Kitchens. Good customer service, great prices.

Have a 6 yr old (rental) and 11 yr old Howdens kitchens in new house. DSis has a 3 yr old. Only the 11 yr old is showing signs of wear - the house we moved to - I’d be confident buying again.

Reading with interest.

I'm helping a friend research their new kitchen so this is all very helpful, ta.
