How to get rid of weed smell from neighbours

Hi. Our office is in a converted house on a busy street - eateries, barbershops, convenience stores, flats. It’s not the swankiest part of town. Our neighbours smoke a lot of strong weed which seeps into our building. Def coming from inside. Not the type of people we want to complain about, nor do they seem receptive to a polite request. Anything that could mask the smell for us? Plants, humidifiers?? We do not have a landlord and are v sceptical of the efficacy of complaining and in any event nervous about repercussions.
Any ideas??

Move. Only solution I am afraid.

Hmm. Long term we will. We’re a small not-for-profit org so can’t just up and go. I’m (naively) hoping someone will have a magic solution 🤷‍♀️

What about an air purifier?

Chersfrozenface · 06/02/2025 10:35

Where are they in relation to you? Next door on the same or a different level? On another floor in the same building?

Smells get in through openings in the building's structure. I live in an Edwardian terrace and in one part of the house you can smell what the next-door neighbours are cooking for lunch.

If you can identify where the smell is getting in, can you block the aperture? For instance, thick flooring over floorboards, insulation between skirting and floor.

@Chersfrozenface we’re on four levels and I think the smell is coming from their middle two floors, so I could look at that. Thanks.

I had neighbours who smoked indoors and it was very much coming up through cracks in the floorboards. I put a heavy rubber and felt combination underlay down and it made a huge difference.

Better than crack?

Invite the police round to your office.
Find an excuse.

We wouldn’t be able to smell that though! Appreciate it would likely bring other issues.
