Me and my husband have been considering an extension for a couple of years now, we have been approved by the bank to extend our mortgage and borrow just over 100k which will take our mortgage payments from a comfortable £660 a month to just over £1200 a month, I work part time and my husband full time and we have a monthly income of £3200 so with other bills our outgoings will be about £2300. We feel like we are stretching ourselves too much but the we would love to turn our house from a 3 to 4 bed and create a nice kitchen/dinner. Current house just doesn’t function how we would like, and bedrooms are very small. We have considered moving but this would take mortgage payments to the same if not more, plus we love the area and location to kids school is great!

We built an extension on our previous house and created a fabulous family space. No regrets whatsoever. However we only did it when I increased my hours to full time so that we had more disposable income. Is this something you could do?
