Hideous tiled bathroom makeover on a budget?

Both bathrooms in my house are tiled floor to ceiling with hideous tiles. They even have a little texture on them. They are so ugly but also as they are perfectly usable they are waaay down on the list of things we want to spend money on but I’d be happy to spend a couple of hundred pounds on making them look reasonable. Any suggestions on either covering or painting tiles?

Stick on floor tiles?

Personally though, I would save money to change it properly

Tile paint? We painted our kitchen tiles and they look great, totally transformed.

How big is your bathroom? If you knock the tiles off yourself, you might get a small bathroom replastered for a couple hundred pounds.

It's unlikely to cost £200 but you can get really nice acrylic now that you can have glued over the tiles. It is cheaper than having tiles removed and possibly replastering.

When you say hideous do you mean:

  1. A nasty pattern
  2. A colour you don't like
  3. Dirty grout, or
  4. White like a public toilet?

In the past I've applied tile transfers for 2. and 4. I also put a large lightweight print into a windowless bathroom.

Dirty or discoloured grout you could clean.

That's what we used.

I personally wouldn't spend a couple of hundred on making them look fractionally better, I'd rather leave them as they are for a bit longer then refurbish the bathroom - especially if the bathroom suite looks OK and it's just the tiles that are awful. It just seems like a waste of your time and some money that would be better spent doing the job properly. As you've two bathrooms you could prioritise one over the other and bump it up the To Do list? (Unless your house is like ours and has a To Do list as long as your arm with some alarming priorities like crap roof and render letting damp in)

The plain sheet x 2 might do two bathrooms for £200 (plus fitting) if they're not that big. Not sure if they still do a light blue, but that's what I've got in my rental and it looks fab.

it was £40 per tin of paint and took days to paint my small bathroom tiles and once it dried several coats only the ‘central’ bits looked good anyway, and it immediately scratched off when putting the blinds back up, I’d leave it, at least the texture is what it’s supposed to be iyswim?
