Best places to live within 2 hours of N. Kent?

Currently living in Mid/North Kent (Medway). But thinking of moving in the near future to buy. Everything down here is ridiculously expensive, where are the best areas within a 2 - 2 1/2 hour drive where you can feasibly by a decent 2/3 bed house for under £250k?

Medway prices are quite low given its proximity to London.
Apart from 2 or 3 bedrooms what else are you looking for? Terrace or semi, with a drive, what size garden, what era? Near a station? Where do you need to get to for work?

There’s a lot of options in your budget in Margate. Or you could head South to Cranbrook/Staplehurst way. It’s nicer than Medway/Margate in terms of safety and green spaces, but probably more boring for children.

The Weald is some of the most expensive real estate in Kent. To get more for your money than Medway you’re going to need to go to the island or some of the coastal towns.

Take a look on Rightmove for examples of 2 beds for under £250k. Plenty there.

You actually get more house for your money there than many other parts of west Kent. It’s definitely not the most expensive part of Kent on the whole.

Not the most expensive, no. Some of. But if you are looking to get more for your money than Medway, you need to be thinking about the island, the coast and possibly parts of Sittingbourne. Medway is literally known for being a cheap place to live.

Oh I didn’t read that she wanted more for her money, just that she wants a 2-3 bed house for under £250k and presumably wants to be somewhere nicer than Medway. So I suggested the Weald area as it ticks her boxes and is still in a lovely area with links to London and Medway.

If you want to buy for max £250k you can get a 3 bed semi/ terrace in Gillingham / sittingbourne / strood etc for that type of money . Just look on rightmove .

Ok for one, we don’t want to live in Medway anymore lol. We are considering moving further away to buy, we know Medway very well and the types of places you can buy within that budget are not places we want to live. We’re ideally looking to move out of Kent and Sheppey/Sittingbourne definitely isn’t somewhere we’d consider.

We both work from home so commuting isn’t an issue but want to be within 2hours of Medway for my partner’s parents.

Ideally would want at least 3 bedrooms or a big 2 bed and we’re not a fan of Gillingham style terraces 2 up and 2 down.

We’re not especially fussed about semi or detached etc. Ideally 2 bathrooms but not a dealbreaker.

How about Birchington?

Have you looked at shared ownership options? Realistically I'm not sure where you could get a 3 bed for £250k outside of Kent that isn't a complete shit hole. Rightmove is not pretty.

Going westwards to East Sussex is more expensive, same for London. So then you're left with Essex.
