Hi all,

Looking for advice on good areas to live in the East Midlands, as relocating from the South.

What are the best villages around Leicestershire / Nottinghamshire with easy access to either Nottingham High School or Loughborough Grammar School? Not sure which we will choose yet.

Looking for village with nice country walks, a good pub and easy access to schools / town / City Centres.

Budget is £500 - 900k for a family home.

Many Thanks

Barrow Upon Soar, Quorn, and Rothley are lovely Leicestershire villages. Bus service for first 2 villages to Loughborough. Train station in Barrow for Loughborough and Nottingham.

I grew up in Barrow on Soar and went to Loughborough High School ( the girls' school which is part of the same foundation as LGS). Barrow is more of a small town these days but has lots of pubs, shops and other amenities including the marina at Pillings Lock. Be aware that the Soar floods in the village and was on the national news only a couple of weeks ago, but very localised.
If you want a smaller village then Woodhouse Eaves is nice.
For walks you have good access to the Outwoods and Bradgate Park.
I still visit the area regularly as have family in Loughborough and at the schools mentioned. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.

Happy to offer advice on schools by PM. My son is at LGS. I wish we’d sent him to Nottingham instead.

Deciding on schools is the most important before choosing villages.

If you opt for LGS best villages are Quorn, Woodhouse, Wymeswold. I have a soft spot for Barrow, working there and spending a lot of my social time there but I wouldn’t move there. Flooding, traffic, problems with the sewers, lack of infrastructure, are major problems, and this will only get worse when the 700+ new houses are built.
