Anyone want to buy an actual castle?

Considering some of the houses I’ve seen for sale in London for not much less, this seems like a right bargain.

No ta, it is not big enough for me.

newhomein2025 · 29/01/2025 18:58

I would but I've already got my eye on this one: www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/152515127#/?channel=RES_BUY

You don't buy castles , you storm them. Then raise your flag and it is yours.

Meceme · 29/01/2025 19:03

Visited this castle regularly..its amazing, and the grounds are fabulous. If only ....

Let’s go. We ride at dawn

I love both of them

Ah - but the first castle comes with its own tea and coffee shops 🤣

hexsnidgett · 29/01/2025 19:05

It's not an actual castle- more of a country manor, but very nice. I am surprised to see it on the market, I thought it was still owned by the same family who built it.

Ooof, that is gorgeous too!

the blurb says it has been in the same family for 700 years - must be sad for them to have to sell it.

I wonder how much the maintenance costs and fixing up the roof etc.

newhomein2025 · 29/01/2025 22:21

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats Yes but mine comes with its own mini-pub Wink

Wigtopia · 29/01/2025 22:23

My initial thoughts were

  1. flood risk
  2. ages to clean

beautiful surroundings though

MotherOfCats25 · 29/01/2025 22:25

Does it come with a team of servants like downton Abbey?

soupyspoon · 29/01/2025 22:25

Im surprised these sorts of things are on rightmove

Im not keen on listed buildings, presents problems when you want to put an extension in or put double glazing in. UPVC of course.

TheAirfryerQueen · 29/01/2025 22:28

That's the nuttiest floorplan I've ever seen on Rightmove.

Seagullsandclouds · 29/01/2025 22:32

Not keen on the kitchen TBH. The grey is dated and the wall cupboards are too low.

WomenInConstruction · 29/01/2025 22:39

I prefer the Harrogate one myself, think I'll take that.
Also wondering why the ancestral family seat is on Rightmove!

No thanks, the maintenance costs would be astronomical and it would be a full time job keeping on top of it and the staff

DuncanMcleod · 30/01/2025 01:42

We built a tower on our house because we always wanted to live in a castle.

sixtyandfabulousofcourse · 30/01/2025 09:28

nice to swank about ie 'oooh one lives in a castle' but a sod to heat draughty stone walls lots of stairs and you cannot exactly stick a Stannah in esp when open to the public.
