Quartz kitchen worktops

I am getting a new kitchen put in and am getting quotes for worktops. I really like quartz but is expensive. Does anyone know if 20mm quartz is less durable/more likely to crack than 30mm? It is a bit cheaper. Would you recommend a quartz worktop?

We have a quartz overlay worktop. It's grey with sparkly flecks in and is absolutely stunning. Very strong and cleans up easily. We love it. Not sure of the thickness though.

I have white quartz worktops marbled with grey. They look stunning when clean and polished but stain really easily. Tea, coffee, wine, curry and dark coloured bread paper all leave their mark!
I use a large clear Joseph Joseph worktop saver in one area. Barkeeper’s Friend cream or powdered cleaner does remove any stains.
Also find the edges chip very easily if caught with a plate or cup e.g. when emptying the dishwasher.
We have cheaper laminate worktops in the utility so use that area for serving curry etc.

I've had both 20mm and 30mm quartz and have managed to chip both! I've never fully cracked anything but it's generally catching heavy pans on the edges.

Not sure where you're getting it priced from but a good way to save money is to go direct to a local stone yard and then go look at the slabs they have there. You can talk to them about prices and have an idea of what it will finally look like much better than with a small sample too. If you take along a plan of your kitchen they're also really helpful in telling you how to get the most out of any slab you're buying for example by varying the upstands and looking at where you'd have any joins. If you're near SW London/Surrey I can recommend a really good one.
