Have you ever had to claim on home insurance

I recently moved to a property which is rented, I've never had home insurance before but have been looking into it, I was thinking if I was bugled or there was a flood, are these types of things the only reason most people claim for or do people claim regularly and for what reason

I once had to claim for a freak accident of something falling through the corrogated plastic roof of a single story extension (not my fault in any way). The insurance company were really good - came out and patched up the hole that day, took all the details and processed the claim and then arranged to replace the broken roof panels.

As a renter you should get contents insurance to protect your belongings, yes.

Too much. My old house was Victorian with a dodgy roof so I claimed for the roof repairs once or twice. We had a leak under the floor and had to switch water off and stay in a hotel for the night. The worst one was a fire that started in the kitchen and spread very quickly. Noticed fire very quickly but shocking how much smoke damage there was by the time fire brigade arrived. Of my 26 years of home ownership those all happened within 7 years. Nothing either side of those and hopefully never again! But I'll always have insurance.

Twice - once due to a burglary and the second time due to a burst pipe. Worry every penny.

DS1 jumped up to run to the bathroom to be sick and stood right on top of his iPad, so we claimed for that, about 13yrs ago.

We bought a new telly one weekend, the following Friday I fell over (I am disabled and do fall) and knocked the damn thing flying breaking the screen. It couldn’t be repaired, unfortunately.

Thankfully our premium hardly changed.
