What would this cost round your way? Rural location, large garden,2 beds, lounge with wood burner, new kitchen, bathroom. Unfurnished.

We pay £1400 in rural sussex, ours hadn't been updated since 1980s though. We also have a detached garage and off street parking. Garden on four sides.

Hedjwitch · 21/01/2025 08:36

Wow. So the £850 being asked seems a good deal now

Probably about £2k around here. £850 sounds like a bargain!

LittleRedRidingHoody · 21/01/2025 08:39

Massively depends on location. Round here (Home Counties) probs £1.8k-ish. A friends parents rent one up north that's similar and pay £700!

Ilovemyshed · 21/01/2025 08:40

About £1100-1200 here

KittenOnTheTable · 21/01/2025 08:45

We was £500 a month but arse end of Scotland

SnapdragonToadflax · 21/01/2025 09:36

£850 sounds good to rent anything to me, that's what we were paying 8 years ago for a tiny one bed house. It will hugely depend on where in the country you are.

I've had a look for what you describe and the closest I can find is £2500 pcm. There's very few bungalows to rent around here though and most look in very poor condition.

Mandatoryamanda · 21/01/2025 09:37

Home county - £2k min, probably more due to new kitchen etc. No kids, pets or housing allowed 😛

OrlandointheWilderness · 21/01/2025 09:46

Depends entirely on location! We have old terraced cottage (early 18th century). 3 bed, log burner. Garden front and back, lots of outhouses and outside space. Very tiny hamlet, no shops or amenities. £900 a month, Lincolnshire.

Babadookinthewardrobe · 21/01/2025 09:55

£1400 semi rural South West

Hedjwitch · 21/01/2025 10:23

Thank you all. Yes,obviously location is one of the main factors but I'm out of touch with prices and DD is looking at this property. It is rural Scotland so nothing like SE prices thank God. Some of the amounts given are horrendous!

Gloucestershire. Just had a look on rightmove, the most rural two bed bungalows I can find are £1450, £1350, £1600 and £2k a month.

I'd wonder why it was so low at £850, but if she's happy with it, then that's great.

Bjorkdidit · 21/01/2025 11:09

How long is a piece of string? As well as location, the cost to run, local competition, state of decor/garden etc will affect the price.

What else is available to rent in that location for £850 is what she should be asking.

It might 'look like a good deal' compared with properties in more expensive parts of the country, but not if it's really shabby, costs a fortune to heat, doesn't have mains gas, is miles from anywhere. Likewise if other properties in the vicinity cost £600 for something comparable, or there's other nicer options for the same price. That's what she should be thinking about.

BarnacleBeasley · 21/01/2025 11:19

Rural Scotland can vary massively too, but round my way you'd be lucky to find anything meeting that description at any price, they don't come up very often. Currently I can only find 2 beds on rightmove in towns, and they mostly cost more than that.

Hedjwitch · 21/01/2025 13:51

It's immaculate inside and garden well tended, but agree energy rating might be something to look out for. Thanks everyone

Peak District probably between £700 and £1200 depending on how attractive it is and which specific village.

Whammyyammy · 21/01/2025 19:02

£850pcm would rent you a room in a house here. South West

mitogoshigg · 21/01/2025 19:06

Would be a minimum of £1500 with even a small garden here, if rooms are larger and it's well presented add an extra £500, we aren't even SE bungalows are sought after

Seeline · 22/01/2025 09:07

My uni student DCs are paying £625+/month for a room in a (fairly grotty) shared house in different parts of England. £850 for a whole, decent property sounds amazing!
