Dear all, we have just build a 5 x 9 metre room for a open plan living kitchen dining room (would like to have an island but not sure will that make it too cramped as keeping the dining table). It's a long room as you enter and at the ends we have the patio sliding doors (5 meter side) Can I please ask for help with layout suggestions as seriously struggling - if you have similar size, how have you designed it? pic would hugely help. Many thanks x

Can you build a kitchen island on wheels and install plug sockets in the floor so it gives more flexibility?

I can't help with your size but our house lounge opens to dining area/kitchen which opens to conservatory. Our rooms all have double doors so aren't "open plan" as such but it's amazing to the have the facility when we want it.

Do you have a separate utility room?

We have a similar size room, perhaps more like 6.5 x 8m. One corner of this is carved out to make a separate utility which I very much recommend if you don’t have one somewhere else. So the rest of the room is L shape and we have:

snug/TV area at the back of the L (furthest from the garden)

kitchen with island and small sitting area towards the garden

Dining table in between the sitting area and the snug.

Hi, thank you. It will not be movable as will have sockets / or sink. x

Hi mimipie, we do have a separate utility room. So this is a long rectangle room. Any chance of any drawing or pics please? x

here’s a very rough drawing. Does your rectangle go side to side across the house? Or front to back

Thank you so much mimipie. It looks great! Ours is front to back. So the width is 5.13 meters and the depth is 9.7 meters. How do I go by it. End 5 meter side is patio door and start 5 metre side is door to the room from left hand corner. x

Ok so I’m not sure if your house is a Victorian terrace but that sounds like roughly the size and shape you’d get if you extend a Victorian terrace into the side return and out the back a bit too. There are lots of houses like this so this may help you find examples online? Pinterest etc.

We have a very similar size, 9.6 x 5.6 I think. We have the kitchen part directly as you come in from the front of the house with an island, then the dining table and a sofa and tv at the end near the garden.
Will see if I can find any photos.

This is our layout and as a pp said, victorian semi with side return.

Some people have a thinner island with a table to the side, we didn't think we had the width for that so had a wider island.

Thank you! It looks great! Below is a rough drawing. Ours is not a Victorian.

It looks like you could have your main kitchen to the right as you come in the kitchen door with a one unit deep island and slight overhang?
Then dining table near the doors.
