Leaving Tunbridge Wells for Mayfield, East Sussex?

We have 7 month old boy/girl twins and two working golden retrievers. Our 3 bedroom semi detached we have lovingly renovated over the last 4 years is busting at the seams and we need more room. Unless we can pull another £500k out of the bag, a 4-5 bed with a decent garden and a drive is out of the question in Tunbridge Wells. However, we found a house we like in Mayfield, East Sussex. It would mean kissing goodbye to the grammar schools in due course if we stay there, and it's much quieter than what we're used to, but can anyone shed light on this area?

The local estate agents have said more country properties in the surrounding villages will come up soon (I'm guessing Penshurst, Speldhurst, Fordcombe etc). But we seem to be able to get much more for our money in East Sussex.

Would love some views.

I personally think Mayfield is ok if you can afford private school. I live in a village very close to Tunbridge Wells, closer to the schools which will help with catchment area .
We lived in Langton Green initially and had to jump through hoops to get our daughter into TWGGS because of the catchment area . Speldhurst and Fordcombe are even more out of area .
