Looking for inspiration on how to change the layout or extend (or both!) this to incorporate a kitchen/diner/family room and adding a utility room. All ideas welcome! Thank you!

How is the garage currently used? On which side(s) is there space to extend? What’s the budget? Do you want to keep 2 reception rooms plus the kitchen / diner / family room or can one be incorporated into the new kitchen?

Knock through kitchen and reception 1. Build stud wall through existing kitchen to fence off bottom third for utility (where side door is). Keep reception room 2 for snug/spare room/office.

The simplest is probably knock through kitchen and reception 1, keep reception 2 as a cosy living room. Utility might fit at the end of the kitchen, depends how much space between doors and the wall shared with reception 2

Ha great minds think alike!

Agree with others, kitchen and reception room 1 together, carve out space for a utility. I don't think it needs extending if you're an average-sized family.

Thank you! I had thought of joining kitchen and reception 1 but wasn’t sure on losing the spacious lounge so it is great to hear you think similar would work. @Uol2022 There is room to extend at the back of the house into the garden, the garage is just used for storage but plenty of options for a shed etc if we were to use that. I did wonder about garage into reception 1 as a kitchen in the front section, diner then family room and convert the other side into a long lounge. Trying to figure out what would work best!

That would be a lot more expensive (like ten times as much?) especially if you need to move water (moving location of kitchen). Probably only worth it if you need extra space too.

If you wanted to use the garage I’d make that a separate room with bay window to match reception 2 and entrance via whatever the gray bit next to the wc is, and otherwise the same plan with knocking thru kitchen / r1.

If extending to the back then I’d go as far across as the doors out of r1, that gives you a decent extension to the kitchen and you can add a matching set of doors at 90 degrees to the doors out of r1 and put a nice patio in the square between them. I’d still be inclined to make the bottom end of the kitchen into the utility and would consider at least a door between kitchen and r1 even if not combining the rooms.
