What made you choose that area @PDJ8 ? I’ve always felt it’s a bit out of the way but not sure there’s anything wrong with it as such. What did you want from a move? Quieter? cheaper? I’m looking around Northfleet as it’s probably all I can afford so always interested to look at other options not too far away.

Don't know it as such but it was the brunt of jokes from those that escaped afaik
That was 35 years ago but I haven't heard anything positive about it even since then.
Im thinking low pay and rubbish public transport and infrastructure

It’s not necessarily that we chose that area. We did whatever was close to where we are now.I lived in Sidcup for 25 years but can’t afford to live there so looking further. We are willing to go as far as Rochester or west malling. We are renting atm and we want to get on the property ladder. We have previously looked at Strood and it’s quite bad, so Gravesend seems much better in comparison. We also know a few people from Gravesend that said it’s ok. We aren’t expecting luxury.

We have also found northfleet is more expensive.

Overall I like Gravesend so based on what you’ve said I’d say it’s a good choice, but the bit by Cascades is a little way from main shops and station - do you drive?

JaneDSE9 · 12/01/2025 10:17

I think Gravesend has potential, it has good value period property, a waterfront, lots of shops and pubs and with the new tunnel will be well connected to Essex, but don't buy too near the tunnel route as it could be noisy.

I know that road well. Nice community. Good primary school. There are good local shops about 10 mins walk away.

Gravesend is a terrible dump

Look at some of the lovely villages a little bit further out

Vitriolinsanity · 12/01/2025 13:44

As with anywhere, there are good parts and not so good.

The particular area that OP refers to is not a dump, far from it.
