Safe and Family friendly place to live

Hi,
A friend of mine recently got a job in Peterlee but is concerned that it might not be an ideal place to raise a family based on some police crime reports. He’s considering relocating with his family to a safer and more family-friendly area, such as Newcastle, Darlington (e.g., Middleton St. George), Durham (e.g., Langley Moor, Middleton St. George, Hurworth, or Heighington to the north), or other similar locations.
He plans to commute daily to Peterlee for work and will rely on public transport (train, bus, or taxi). Ideally, he needs:

  1. Good Schools: A neighborhood with access to excellent secondary schools for his children and proximity to universities (To study Nursing and other great courses).
  2. Job Opportunities: An area where his wife can find work to support the family.
  3. Convenient Location: A home close to train stations for easy commuting.
  4. Housing Requirements: A detached or semi-detached house with 2-3 double bedrooms, ideally with access to playgrounds and family-friendly amenities like nice restaurants.
  5. Budget: Information on the cost of such homes in the desired areas would be helpful.
Could you please provide guidance on suitable locations and insights into the costs of housing in these areas? Thank you in advance! Best regards,
