…and have back dated it to October 2010!! Does that mean we will get 15 years of refund?

I would think you would get the difference back, yes. How much would it be?

Nellieinthebarn · 04/01/2025 15:00

I think you will, this happened to a person I know of, and they got a nice lump sum refund. This was some years ago though.

What has prompted the VOA to review?

Justalittlebitblondie · 04/01/2025 15:20

They have just given the reason “other information has come to light” - it has gone from band E to band d - sounds like could be good news!

Jammy git. Why only you? Bet you were delighted.

It is going to be a god send - just had six months of mat leave on stat pay only for a surprise baby and things are hard financially- even just reducing our bill by £30 a month would be amazing!

Woo hoo. Glad for you

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/01/2025 19:43

Yes, you get a reimbursement of what you've overpaid from your local authority.

We got rebranded from E to D 12 years ago when I was mat leave with DD. The valuation office worked out what we'd overpaid, and told me to get in touch with my local authority. LA had the same paperwork and refunded me about £8K there and then!

Wot23 · 05/01/2025 15:13

if you have owned it since Oct 2010 then that looks to be a nice windfall coming your way

personally however I would prefer to understand exactly why yours is the only down banding as there is nothing stopping it going back up again and you would be better off knowing the grounds on which to oppose if that happened.

Justalittlebitblondie · 05/01/2025 18:10

They built two infill houses one house away (so extended the terrace by two of that makes sense) and they are valued roughly the same as mine but are band d so I think that is what has generated it… the road is a complete mishmash tbh - our house and the new ones are the only ones not listed so there is no easy comparison

Very happy for you! Sometimes people try to get theirs changed, they look at the whole road, and others benefit.
