Going from bedroom and living room to 2 bedrooms?

Hi,

It’s got to the point with my 2 year old (just been referred for autism assessment) where sharing a room is too much. We live in a 1 bed and can’t afford to move any time soon. I’m in work etc but it barely pays enough for the bills even with UC. I’m putting away as much as I can each month to save for somewhere bigger but it’s not an option at the moment.

With having a living room and a bedroom (neither very big) I was looking for some help on rearranging. DS needs his own space for when he’s having a hard time and I think it’s a bit overwhelming for him not having his own space so to speak.

Does anyone have any experience with going from sharing a bedroom and having a living room to going to a bedroom each and no communal area so to speak? Or if not, how do I give DS a space of his own in the small shared bedroom? He’s currently in a cotbed but we haven’t taken the side off as don’t think he can be trusted to roam around at this point and we don’t like to close doors as they make quite a racket.

TIA x

He's only small, what about a sensory tent? Either a proper blackout one or just a pop up camping tent that you can put away?

How often do you use your living room? Maybe get a really great sofa bed so the room can be dual purpose?
