Worcester boiler won't come on. One for PigletJohn

Hoping @PigletJohn can help if possible please?

We have a Worcester 4000 boiler which won't turn on. It is only 2 years and 8 months old. We have no heating or hot water and the radiators are not turning on.

Has anything that might be on the same electrical circuit stopped working?

No there is power to it but no heating is turning on.

Do you need to let more water into the system? Usually caused by a leak. There should be a guage and it should be about 1.5 if it's less, open the valve until it fills and restart the boiler and it should work.

Any code on the display?

MintsPi · 25/12/2024 20:10

Hi the display reads 1.2bar.

My partner had thr heating on last night and this morning the error code 227 which was reset using the 2 butttons.

Since then no code has been on. But dispiye trying to turn the heating in nothing happens.

Have you googled error code 227 for. Worcester boiler? It seems to suggest it may be an issue with the gas supply or a frozen pipe. There are lots of online suggestions which may fix the fault without having to call out a professional?

MintsPi · 25/12/2024 20:25

Sorry the code is 2910. Too much christmas spirit i think!

Sounds like the pressure has dropped. If you look on YouTube you’ll find an easy demo on how increase it back to a normal level. It happens to mine a couple times a year . It’s just a matter of opening a little valve/tap and watch the pressure gauge rising from the red area into the green.

PigletJohn · 25/12/2024 20:34

2910 seems to be a flue fault, not a DIY repair.

But tell us about frost and freezing

I don't think so.

Neither is it a "radiator needs bleeding."

Ignore me. I didn’t realise the fault had been identified. A possible low pressure cause was fresh in my mind as it’s just a few days since I had to top up mine after the boiler wouldn’t come on.

Hi thanks for your reply.

Here in the SW England our temp is currently 8c.

The outside condense pipe is clear. Checked about 1 hour ago.

The interior pipe under the boiler is clear. It had some black build up which is wiped away.

Looking at it i dont think it had 227 code but just 2190 as ive wasted xmas day online searching this issue.

The hot water seems ok. But does drop off every now and then.

Boiler settings below

Water 55c
Heating 65c
Boiler 64c
Pressure 1.4 bar

I had this the other day and it ended up being a blockage in the system. Too much gunk in the u bend of my kitchen sink. As soon as dh cleared it, it switched on.

PigletJohn · 25/12/2024 22:12

You said earlier you had no hot water. I gathered from the code that there was a flue fault preventing the boiler from firing.

Do you mean that the boiler is running but the radiators are cold?

Is there an error code?

MintsPi · 25/12/2024 22:32

Hi thanks again PigletJohn. We can get hot water now. At first we had about 10 seconds of warm water then cold.

Now i can get hot water. It doesnt last long though.

Yeah the boiler runs but no heating.

There is no codes but previously i had 2190 a few hours ago.

It might be a flow problem but I think you need to get the mender out.

Usually having enough hot water to wash is the most important thing but see if you can borrow a few electric heaters locally. IMO oil filled electric radiators are the safest. You can often buy them for £25 upwards

(Always sold out in a cold snap, and on sale when winter ends)
