Help with painting mantle piece detail

Hi, looking for help with our mantelpiece. We’ve painted our big dark monstrosity of a mantelpiece so that it is now white and it’s a massive improvement but looks a bit too white now. There is a minimal inlay design on it so I’m thinking it might be good to paint these gold but have no idea what kind of paint, and more importantly how do I do this neatly? Any help or ideas welcome please.

You could use gold wax instead of paint. Do this with a small artist 's paint brush. If you go overboard you can remove any excess with plain (transparent) wax or turpentine. I would use an antique gold colour or bronze. Bright gold would look a bit shiny or fake. You could also try antiquing the entire mantelpiece with a bit of thinned down brown ( boot) wax or bronze if you think the whole thing looks too white or new. Try out in a little corner before doing the whole thing. You can use a cloth for the larger surface.

This sounds like exactly what I need. Really appreciate the help thank you.
