Air con in loft - location advice please!

Hello, we are in the midst of a loft conversion and would like to install air con. The builder needs a decision on where we want to vent it/hang the outside fan bit (very technical, I know!)

There are two options:

On the roof, above the loft room.

Or

Down in the garden at ground level - near to neighbours back door.

Option one worries me because access for maintenance could be an issue. Option two worries me because I don't want to bother the neighbours.

If you have air con, where did you vent it? If it's on the roof, is it noisy? And is it easy to get it serviced in that location? Our builder is saying it will be able to be access by going out the front velux window. Sounds a bit scary to me and worried no one will want to touch it.

Thanks

Our air con people wanted the outside unit mounted so that it could be maintained by someone standing on a step ladder. Ours is by the neighbours back door as it happens, but they've had no complaints and it really isn't intrusive at all

Ours is attached to the side of the house just above a flat roof. Not had any problems with noise. I think in your case I'd opt for the ground level option.

Everyone here has them at ground level and most cover them in the winter to stop them being filled with snow. They do sometimes lose refrigerant and need to be recharged.

Don't you need planning approval to fit air con?
